The best way to start is with a practice chanter which is the part that you blow into (above). After you have learnt where the notes are and can play some tunes, it’s time to get the air pumping … you’ll need a lot of puff!
If you imagine that the chanter is similar to a recorder and easy to play … you are wrong! It uses a reed (inside) to produce the sound but to play traditional Scottish tunes requires some serious study and to include the extra ornaments with the main notes.
Great for New Year’s Eve and other special occasions.
